Lanexa Liberty – February 2018 Newsletter

Dear Church Family,

It’s hard to believe January is already over! I’m sure many of you are already thinking about spring and looking forward to warmer weather. I’m anxious for winter to be over, too, but let’s not overlook February. We’ve got some great events to get excited about!

Be praying about Super Bowl Sunday on February 4th. Sure, it’ll be a fun evening, but most importantly, we need to invite, invite, invite! This will be such a great opportunity to share the love of Christ and present the Gospel to those in our community who wouldn’t typically join us at church. It’s one of the largest (if not THE largest) secular Sundays in the world! Why not use that event to show people that we’re not taking a knee when it comes to one of America’s favorite pastimes, but we’re taking a stand for Jesus and using this event to share the Gospel!

I hope you’re also looking forward to our Outdoors Ministry’s Wild Game Banquet. We plan to have a full house on February 17th! You can expect wild game samples and appetizers, a delicious dinner and dessert, great prizes and give-a-ways, and a powerful message from our special speaker, Neal Hatfield. You don’t want to miss this night. So, if you haven’t already sponsored a table, get yours now and be thinking and praying about who you’ll invite to fill your seats!

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to talk to you all about results. You know, every-thing we do here at Liberty Baptist Church should produce results. We should always be bearing fruit—seeing people come to know Christ as Savior, discipling and enabling believers to have a deeper relationship with Him, and making an impact and meeting needs in our community. We should always be moving forward, setting new goals, and climbing new mountains. We’ve certainly already seen some exciting things happen over the last several months, but we can’t get comfortable! We can’t expect new results if we continue to do the same things. That’s why I’m so excited about these new events in February, and I hope you are, too.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how God blesses Liberty Baptist Church this month, and in the months and years to come! “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Cor. 15:58).

In Christ,
Pastor Troy

Dear Church Family,

Happy New Year to all of you! I pray you had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas with your family and friends, and that you’re excited to see what 2018 has in store for us!

The new year always brings with it a sense of starting fresh, so you might think I’m getting ready to tell you all about how it’s time to start fresh here at Liberty. But I’m not! You know, we celebrate the beginning of a new year on January 1st. The Chinese New Year usually falls around late January or early February. The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana, takes place in the fall—often in mid to late September. My point is that any day is a good day to start fresh! God’s mercies are new every morning (Lam. 3:22-23)!

I think Liberty Baptist Church turned a page and started fresh on October 1st of 2017. I’ve been setting goals in my heart and mind since then, and I hope you have been, too. But every day that we wake up is a fresh, new opportunity to serve Christ! Rick Warren once compared success in building the kingdom to riding a wave. You see, we can’t create a wave, but we can ride it! In the same way, we can’t create a movement of the Holy Spirit, but when we see Him at work, we can get on board and work with Him! We can ride that wave whether it’s January 1st or any other day of the year!

Since October 1st, I’ve seen the Holy Spirit moving, and I hope you have, too! I pray that as we continue to make our hearts and lives available to be used by Him, that He’ll move in even bigger ways in our church and across our community! Let’s be determined to catch that wave and ride it—determined to grow closer to Christ, to serve each other, and to intentionally share the Gospel with our community!

In Christ,
Pastor Troy

Lanexa Liberty – November 2017 Newsletter

Dear Church Family,

I hope you’re all enjoying this cool, fall weather! The leaves are really changing now, and the temperature has definitely dropped. But I’ve been ready to welcome this change of seasons — both outside our church doors and inside, too.

Over the last few months, I’ve been encouraged by our faithful church members, the new faces I’ve seen, and the new members we’ve welcomed. I have a vision of what Liberty Baptist Church can become in this community — a vision of all the lives we can touch for Christ, and all the people who might come to know Jesus as Savior as we share the Gospel with them. I picture a Liberty that grows day by day, because God is blessing our efforts to be a light in our community. I am trusting Him to restore and revive Liberty Baptist Church, from the inside out, and I pray you are, too!

You know, folks, God wants to bring about restoration. It’s His will that we be fruitful and multiply. In fact, God commands it! You may be like me, imagining what Liberty will look like in the future months and years, and I pray you’re excited about what the future holds! However, we do need to be careful. It’s just not wise to have preconceived notions about what this restoration is ultimately going to look like. We can’t assume we already know the blueprint because only God knows that.

All through scripture, God told men and women to follow His lead. Noah built an ark—something he’d never seen in his life until God gave him the instructions to build it. Abraham followed God to an unknown land. Moses and the Israelites followed Him out of Egypt, through the wilderness, until they ultimately made it to the Promised Land. Even as they constructed the tabernacle, they followed God’s lead throughout the process.

We know that it is God’s will for us to be fruitful and multiply, but we will have to follow His lead, too! Will you each be praying for restoration and revival? Pray also for daily opportunities to share the love and the Gospel of Christ, and for the courage to follow Him as He leads you! I will be doing the same as we move into this new season at Liberty, and I’m humbly asking you to follow me as I follow Christ — because this is all about what God’s going to do! God will get all the glory for the restoration and revival of Liberty Baptist Church!

In Christ,
Pastor Troy

Lanexa Liberty – August 2017 Newsletter

Dear Church Family,

I trust you’re all having a wonderful summer and making the most of it! We’ve certainly been busy at LBC over the last month. We had a great turn out for the concert by Mercy’s Well, and there’s a lot of excitement about Vacation Bible School and the Community Block Party! I pray you and your family will be blessed and encouraged by these events as well.

To wrap up our summer, we’ll be taking the church van to Kempsville Baptist Church each Monday night in August to hear a series of different speakers. If you’d like to go, there will be a place for you to sign up on the bulletin board. I look forward to hearing some great sermons to get us energized for fall. It’ll be here before we know it, and there’s a lot to look forward to!

First, we’re busy getting ready for Homecoming on September 10th! This will be a special Homecoming for me, and I’m really looking forward to it. Recently, while getting settled into my office, I came across lots of pictures and letters that brought back so many great memories of my previous years here at Liberty. I’ve also really enjoyed the ministry visits and Senior Lunches that have allowed me to catch up with some folks I haven’t seen in years, and I keep running into young adults who were just children or youth the last time I saw them. Time flies!

James 4:14 reminds us that life is “just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” I’ve been reminded of that as I’ve reconnected with people over the last weeks and months. And since life is just a vapor, we need to be busy about our Father’s business (Luke 2:49). That’s why we’re planning an “LBC Youth Reunion” for the Saturday before Homecoming. Some might say “Pastor Troy, planning for Homecoming is already enough work. Are you sure this is a good use of time?” Well, I feel compelled to try and gather the sheep who’ve gone astray for various reasons. It’s important for us to reach out to them, because they were important enough to Christ that He died for them. Please pray for a great turn out and for me as I attempt to encourage and minister to them!

Also, we’ll begin studying the book of Galatians on Wednesday nights, and start a new sermon series on Sunday nights based on Thom Rainer’s book, “I Will.” There’s so much exciting work to do, Liberty! I pray you’re excited about all that God is doing, too!

In Christ,
Pastor Troy
