Dear Church Family,
I trust you’re all having a wonderful summer and making the most of it! We’ve certainly been busy at LBC over the last month. We had a great turn out for the concert by Mercy’s Well, and there’s a lot of excitement about Vacation Bible School and the Community Block Party! I pray you and your family will be blessed and encouraged by these events as well.
To wrap up our summer, we’ll be taking the church van to Kempsville Baptist Church each Monday night in August to hear a series of different speakers. If you’d like to go, there will be a place for you to sign up on the bulletin board. I look forward to hearing some great sermons to get us energized for fall. It’ll be here before we know it, and there’s a lot to look forward to!
First, we’re busy getting ready for Homecoming on September 10th! This will be a special Homecoming for me, and I’m really looking forward to it. Recently, while getting settled into my office, I came across lots of pictures and letters that brought back so many great memories of my previous years here at Liberty. I’ve also really enjoyed the ministry visits and Senior Lunches that have allowed me to catch up with some folks I haven’t seen in years, and I keep running into young adults who were just children or youth the last time I saw them. Time flies!
James 4:14 reminds us that life is “just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” I’ve been reminded of that as I’ve reconnected with people over the last weeks and months. And since life is just a vapor, we need to be busy about our Father’s business (Luke 2:49). That’s why we’re planning an “LBC Youth Reunion” for the Saturday before Homecoming. Some might say “Pastor Troy, planning for Homecoming is already enough work. Are you sure this is a good use of time?” Well, I feel compelled to try and gather the sheep who’ve gone astray for various reasons. It’s important for us to reach out to them, because they were important enough to Christ that He died for them. Please pray for a great turn out and for me as I attempt to encourage and minister to them!
Also, we’ll begin studying the book of Galatians on Wednesday nights, and start a new sermon series on Sunday nights based on Thom Rainer’s book, “I Will.” There’s so much exciting work to do, Liberty! I pray you’re excited about all that God is doing, too!
